Ragland School welcomed a new principal last week after Roger Wilkinson won the unanimous approval of the St. Clair County Board of Education.

Wilkinson comes to Ragland from Etowah High School, where he was assistant principal for the past five years.

“I’m excited about being at Ragland,” Wilkinson said. “It’s a rural school, really good kids, a lot of community support, and the school is the center of the community — which is the way it should be.”

Wilkinson, 39, admitted that education was not his first choice of a career, but since the Baltimore Orioles have not called him up to the Majors as a left fielder, he’d making a go of his second choice.

The students and teachers at Ragland should enjoy having Wilkinson at the helm — and his sense of humor should make the transition easier for everyone.
