A man who served as the county’s coroner and circuit clerk died in a single car accident late Friday.

The Tennessee State Trooper’s Post in Knoxville reported that Dalton “Jeff” Wyatt, 55, of Pell City died in the accident along with his brother, William “Turner” Wyatt, 66, of Talladega.

Jeff Wyatt served as St. Clair County coroner from 1992-1998, and as Circuit Court clerk from 2001-2007.

“I’m so sorry,” St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Jim Hill said. “He was a wonderful, friendly person. He would do anything for you.”

The accident occurred at 5:07 p.m. Friday in Tennessee.

“I never saw Jeff without a smile,” Hill said Saturday. “He will be greatly missed.”

According to the accident report, both Wyatts were passengers in a 2008 Hummer that left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier.

The report states the vehicle was traveling northbound on U.S. 321 near Wears Valley in Sevier County, Tenn., when it left the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier, causing it to roll. The vehicle came to a final rest on its top.

According to the trooper’s report, the driver, Jackie Hollinghead, 57, of Cropwell was injured in the accident, along with another passenger, Paula Aldredge, 54, of Birmingham. Both were wearing a seatbelt.

According to the report, both Wyatts were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the fatal accident.
