More than $4,000 was raised for the Pell City High School Athletic Department Saturday through the Ford Motor Company’s Drive One 4 UR School program.

“It put people in their products, and it put money in our pockets,” Assistant Schools Superintendent Michael Barber said. “It was a win-win, fun event. We appreciate Town and Country for partnering with us.”

Pell City’s new Ford, Lincoln and Mercury car dealership brought new Ford vehicles for the public to try out at the high school. The company pledged to give the high school Athletic Department $20 for each test drive.

“I tried out one of those new, nice Lariat trucks,” Barber said. “My father-in-law drove a new Mustang.”

Barber said the community came out to support the fundraising event.

“We had plenty of community workers, many of who were students who benefited from this fundraiser,” Barber said.

According to Town and Country Ford Lincoln Mercury, 205 drivers participated in the one-day program, raising $4,100 for athletic programs.

“We are excited that so many people from the local community turned out to support Pell City High School,” said Doug Bailey, general sales manager for Town and Country Ford. “The day was a win for the school, the students and all of the participants who had the opportunity to take one of our vehicles for a fun, casual drive while at the same time helping the school fund important programs.”

Barber said the School System can’t thank Town and Country Ford enough.

“What a great community partner,” he said. “The Town and Country folks were so inviting. It was a pleasure to work with them. … It was just a great event.”

Since the start of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School program began in 2007, more than 173,000 people have helped raised more than $3.3 million for about 700 high schools across the country.
