Organizer Kerry Hollis said IGNITE ’10 is a community outreach.
“Its vision is to bring our churches outside of their walls and into the community and unify to just love on people,” Hollis said. “That’s why everything is free. This is all about giving back to the community from within the church.”
More than 20 churches will be participating and providing a variety of free food and snacks. Bottles of water will be iced down to help keep everyone hydrated in the heat.
Nine Christian bands from Mississippi, Georgia, Ohio and Alabama, with a variety of different styles including rock, hip-hop, pop, acoustic, bluegrass and jazz, are scheduled to perform.
“I searched for some of the best bands I could find that were up-and-coming artists and also include some of our local favorites in that mix as well,” said Hollis. “We also have nine drama teams from around the area that are coming to perform and nationwide touring Christian comedian Lee McBride will also be entertaining.”
The highlight of the event will be eight-time Dove award nominated and Christian chart-topping band Rush of Fools, which takes the stage at 8 p.m.
“It will be a wonderful time of fellowship and fun, and it’s the perfect event for our community to come together to enjoy something at basically no cost to them,” Hollis said.
“Our business community has stepped up along with our churches to make this happen,” Hollis said. “It takes a very large amount of money to make this happen, and our sponsors of the event have really come through for us. There are also some amazing individuals in our community who have contributed financially to help us make the event possible.”
A few tips and notes for those attending include;
• Bring your chairs and blankets. You can even bring shade tents, but they will be required to remain a certain distance away from the stage in order to prevent obstructing the view of others.
• Coolers are allowed. If you prefer to bring your own hydration, feel free to do so. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.
• Parking is also free, and there will be shuttle carts running to provide easy trips from the parking lots to the field.
• No pets allowed. This is for the safety and health of others.
• Don’t forget your sunscreen and bug spray.
• No smoking is allowed.
• All bands will have merchandise, shirts and CDs for sale and will be available for autographs.
