A crash in Moody during a thunderstorm on Saturday claimed the life of a Springville resident.

Moody police confirmed the death of 42-year-old Gwendolyn Self, of Springville, on Monday. Self was killed when her 1989 Volkswagen, traveling north on U.S. 411, veered into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle, traveling south, in front of Tractor Supply Company.

“She just lost control and got T-boned,” said Lt. Thomas Hunt, of the Moody Police Department. Hunt cited the inclement weather at the time of the accident as a possible factor.

Self was transported to UAB Hospital, and was pronounced dead at 1:47 p.m. The passengers of the other vehicle, according to Hunt, were also transported but had suffered no life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Moody Police Department.
