Sideline Sports Academy says it is expecting nearly 1,000 teenagers Saturday for “Raising Cain,” an event that is a concert, shrimp boil and street party at the Moody facility. The event begins at 5 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m.

“It’s something that Moody has never seen,” Sideline co-owner Shane Sharp said. “We just want to do something that impacts kids, something better than going out and getting into trouble.”

The concert, which is co-sponsored by North Valley Church in Margaret, will feature multiple acts. The most notable is DPB, a Christian rapper known as a regular at The Basement.

Saturday’s event will also feature a three-on-three basketball tournament, inflatables and a shrimp boil. The tournament and shrimp boil cost $10, but the concert is free.

Sharp said the event has been in the works for several months.

“We were looking for something different to make an impact with our kids,” he said. “With the gym, we’ve got a good opportunity to show our faith and what we’re about. North Valley has an event on Thursday nights called Revolution, so they contacted us about putting together a concert in the gym; we asked them what they thought about doing a concert outside during the summer.

“We’re expecting anywhere between 750 and 1,000 kids. We’ve got several church youth groups on board, another cheerleading gym that’s bringing their kids.

“It’s kind of amazing because we haven’t done a great job advertising it; it’s just taken off on word of mouth.”

For more information about the event, call Sideline Sports Academy at 640-5348, after 3 p.m.
