There was one thing on their minds — prayer.

Many from different churches, faiths and walks of life attended the second annual National Day of Prayer in Moody last Thursday. But they all came together for one purpose, and that was to pray.

Coordinator Ronnie Adkins said God has allowed him to build relationships and work with several pastors throughout the area to make this event a success.

“I want to thank the city of Moody for its help and all the corporate sponsors for their help,” Adkins said. “We are observing the 59th National Day of Prayer, which was signed into law in 1952 by then-President Harry S. Truman.”

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed into law that the National Day of Prayer be held the first Thursday of every May.

“It is incredible to see these communities come together for prayer,” Adkins said. “Communities sometimes have barriers, but something like this can bring them together to build relationships. What we want is for the faith-based community to seek God for guidance. It really is a time to come together and build relationships. What we desire is to have healthy individuals — healthy in body and spirit and emotionally and socially. When it all comes together, we have healthy individuals that lead to healthy families that lead to healthy neighborhoods and so on. That leads to thriving communities. That’s what we seek and desire. We want to love, serve and minister to people. We want to help the betterment of every person in this region.”

Ministers offered up prayers, musicians brought their singing talent and there was plenty of food.
