“We received the call shortly before 1 p.m.,” said Capt. Shaun Clevenger with the Pell City Fire Department.
Clevenger said when firefighters arrived on scene, the house was fully involved.
“It was pretty much a total loss,” he said.
A neighbor said she saw smoke coming out of the windows, roof and vents at about 12:45 p.m. and called 911 to report the fire.
“Another neighbor and I went around to the back door and whistled and hollered, but nobody came out,” she said.
Juantina Bardwell, owner of the house, said she was thankful no one was hurt in the fire.
“I normally would have been in there trying to take a nap during my lunch break,” she said. “Thankfully I took my lunch early.”
Bardwell said her children were either in school or daycare.
“I am so thankful no one was hurt,” she said. “Everyone is OK.”
Clevenger said the fire was electrical in origin, and the investigation is closed.
