Monday night will be a night Garrett Taylor will always remember. It was the night the St. Clair County High School senior was named the state’s Bryant/Jordan Scholar-Athlete winner for Class 4A at a banquet in Birmingham.

He is the 17-year-old son of Harlan and Melody Taylor of Odenville. He maintains a GPA of 4.25 and made a 33 on his ACT.

Taylor plays football and baseball.

SCCHS principal Brian Terry said Taylor is an exceptional young man.

“He highly impressed members of the AHSAA at the banquet,” Terry said. “He represented SCCHS the best way a student could. His acceptance speech was wonderful. He is what you dream of academically.”

In winning the state award for Class 4A, Taylor received a $3,000 scholarship to the school of his choice,

Terry said Taylor has already been accepted by Vanderbilt and received a full scholarship to the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

SCCHS head football coach Charlie Boren said Taylor is a very impressive student-athlete.

“He represented his school and family very well,” Boren said. “This is a first here at St. Clair County High.”

Taylor said this is a really big honor.

“Every student there was worthy,” Taylor said. “It is a huge honor to be selected. I want to thank Principal Brian Terry, Athletic Director Carl Mims and the entire coaching staff. They put me in a position to succeed.”
