The Ragland Lady Purple Devils won the Oxford Lakes Sting Tournament over the weekend and are now 18-8 on the season. They defeated Heflin 12-0 in the title game.

This past Monday, the Lady Purple Devils traveled to Saks and defeated them 3-1.

Ragland 15, JCA 0

Before the tournament, Ragland took care of Jacksonville Christian 15-0 in 4 innings. Sommar Wright tossed a perfect game, striking out 11 of the 12 batters she faced.

Oxford 4, Ragland 3

The only game Ragland lost in the tournament was against Oxford. The Lady Purple Devils let the game slip away as they were up 3-1 headed into the final inning but Oxford scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game 4-3.

Wright suffered the loss giving up 4 runs on just 2 hits. She walked 2 and struck out 4.

Emily Church had a solo home run while Madison Oliver and JJ Looney had 2 hits each.

Ragland 8, Munford 0

The loss to Oxford was the only disappointment of the tournament for Ragland as Wright took her pitching to another level, allowing only 2 runs over the next 5 games. The first win was an 8-0 victory over Munford. Wright gave up 1 hit and struck out 9.

Ragland scored in all 4 innings and leading the way was Kailey Echols who was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Church also had 3 hits while Reagan Campbell had 2 hits.

Ragland 1, Spring Garden 0

Brittany Johns had a RBI bunt single in the seventh inning that scored Campbell with the winning run as Ragland defeated Spring Garden 1-0. Church had 2 hits.

Wright gave up 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 6.

Ragland 14, Elmore County 1

The Lady Purple Devils scored 6 runs in the first inning and went on to easily defeat Elmore County 14-1 in 4 innings. Campbell was a perfect 4-for-4 and drove in 2 runs while Church was 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Oliver had 3 hits.

Wright gave up 1 run on 2 hits. She walked 1 and struck out 4.

Ragland 4, SCCHS 1

A 3-run first inning was all Ragland needed as they defeated the St. Clair County Saints 4-1. Wright gave up 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 6. She also had 2 hits at the plate. Church was 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs.

Ragland 12, Heflin 0

In the championship game, Ragland scored 9 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Heflin 12-0. Echols and Church were both 3-for-3 at the plate. Church had 4 RBIs while Echols had a home run and drove in 3 runs.

Wright improved to 16-8 as she tossed a complete game 4-hitter. She walked 1 and struck out 2.

Ragland 3, Saks 1

The third-ranked Lady Purple Devils improved to 18-8 overall as they beat Saks 3-1 Monday in extra innings.

Pinch-runner Taylor Boswell scored a run in the top of the first inning on a single by Wright. The game stayed 1-0 until Saks tied it in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Looney, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, scored the winning run on a RBI single by Church. Boswell scored an insurance run on a hit by Wright to make the final score 3-1.

Wright went 8 innings and gave up 1 run on 4 hits. She walked 2 and struck out 11.
