She is 18 years old and lives with her grandmother, Pat Coffee, of Steele. She is the daughter of Gino and Connie Coffee.
Coffee attended Steele Jr. High School from kindergarten through eighth grade before heading to Ashville as a freshman. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and expects to graduate with honors, No. 7 in her class of honor graduates.
“This is a real big honor,” Coffee said. “There are so many students who applied, and I’m very proud to be chosen as region winner.”
She plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham once she graduates from Ashville and will major in respiratory therapy. She wants to be a pediatrician.
Coffee is a member of the AHS volleyball and basketball teams; basketball is her favorite sport.
“She has always strived to do her best in school and I am very proud of her,” said Pat Coffee.
AHS Principal Jason Baker said Coffee is a fantastic student.
“She works hard in the classroom, obviously, with a 4.0 GPA,” Baker said. “She also works hard when it comes to athletics. We’re excited she is our region winner. She is our first region winner in the past 10 years or so.”
Coffee will attend the state banquet April 5 in Birmingham.
