Dear Editor:

The terrible earthquake in Haiti has caused tremendous hardships for the entire nation. In 1976, we lived in Guatemala and experienced an earthquake of 7.9, stronger than the one in Haiti.

Most upsetting are the remarks of the Rev. Pat Robertson. How can someone claiming to be a Christian make such remarks?

But, that was not the only blunder. At one time, he was on TV with former president of Guatemala, Rios Mont. Under Mont’s “leadership,” thousands of Mayan Indian descendants were murdered by the armed forces of Guatemala, and there this “Reverend” prayed with this monster of a president and thanked him for his leadership.

It is hard to understand why people still support this kind of a person, and the 700 Club.

I.F. Harder, Ashville
