The Leeds Theatre and Arts Center was recently chosen 2009 Best Theatre Group in the Birmingham area by the Fox 6 Upick contest, according to a release from the Leeds Arts Council.

With more than 4,000 voters, the top five places went to 1) Leeds Theatre and Arts Center, 2) Red Mountain Theatre, 3) South City Theatre, 4) Birmingham Children’s Theatre and 5) a tie between Birmingham Broadway Series and Birmingham Festival Theatre.

“We are certainly pleased with this recognition, especially seeing that this is our 25 year anniversary of presenting the arts to the community,” the release reads in part. “We hope to see all those who voted at our next production, ‘My Fair Lady,’ so we may thank them in person.”

The Leeds Theatre and Arts Center is located on Parkway Drive in downtown Leeds and is only fifteen minutes from downtown Birmingham. Ticket prices for various arts programs range from $5 to $25 (for dinner shows).

“The Leeds Arts Council would like to thank Fox News; the wonderful casts, musicians and technical crews of ‘Over the River,’ ‘Let’s Murder Marsha,’ Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘What Did You Learn in School Today,’” the release reads in part. “Our 2009 directors Cliff Keen, Jr. and Michael Bridges; our 2009 play committee chaired by Sandi Nicholson; our 2009 LAC president Reba Reese; our hard working Board of Directors; our LAC members and all our patrons who support the arts programs here at the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center.”
