The season came to a close for Coach Warren House and his Springville Lady Tiger basketball team. They lost to Erwin 53-33 last week in the opening round of the Class 5A, Area 11 Tournament that was played at Erwin.

Springville matched Erwin point for point in the second and fourth quarters 9-9 and 11-11. It was the first and third quarters where Springville had problems.

The Lady Tigers trailed 19-10 after the first quarter and after a 9-9 score in the second quarter, the halftime score was 28-19.

Springville really struggled offensively in the third period as they were outscored 14-3 to make the score 42-22. Both teams scored 11 points each in the fourth quarter to make the final score 53-33.

Molly Lindsey scored 10 points to lead Springville. Audrey House netted 5 points while Anna Marie Ronderos, Dixie Rhodes and Danyelle Martin scored 4 points each. Rhodes also led the team in rebounds with 7. Kate Riker totaled 3 points while Geri Wilson had 2 points.

“We had a hard time matching Erwin’s scoring in the first and third quarters,” said House. “We needed to do a better job on the defensive boards because Erwin scored several points off of put backs from missed shots.”

Springville finishes the season with a record of 10-19.
