The Ragland Purple Devils are 3-11 on the season one week before the St. Clair County Tournament starts.

Ragland lost to Sacred Heart and Lincoln last week.

Sacred Heart 44, Ragland 34

Ragland was held to just 2 points in the second quarter by Sacred Heart and it turned out to be the difference maker as the Purple Devils lost the game 44-34.

Ragland trailed 11-5 after the first quarter and after scoring just the 2 points in the second frame, was behind 18-7 at halftime.

By the time the third quarter ended, Ragland’s deficit was 32-20 and they went on to lose the game 44-34.

Caleb Crews led Ragland with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Colton Echols added 11 points and 4 rebounds while John Arnold scored 6 points and led the team in rebounds with 7. Devin Wilson scored 5 points, had 6 boards and 4 assists.

Ragland coach Andy Eden said his team played a very solid second half but the second quarter offensive collapse gave them no shot at winning the game.

“I believe we are continuing to improve,” Eden said. “If we put all of the pieces of the puzzle together, we have a chance to be a good team.”

With the loss, Ragland fell to 3-10 overall.

Lincoln 60, Ragland 23

The Purple Devils were held scoreless in the first quarter and went on to lose to Lincoln this past Saturday 60-23.

The score was 18-0 after the first quarter and 27-10 at the break.

By the end of the third stanza, Ragland trailed 39-15 and they went on to lose 60-23.

Crews again led Ragland with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Anthony Jones scored 6 points and grabbed 6 boards while Arnold netted 3 points. Orlando Sepeda scored 2 points while Wilson had 1 point but grabbed 6 rebounds.

“Lincoln’s quickness created a lot of trouble for us,” Eden said. “We could not get anything to fall for us in the first quarter, which hurt any chance we had to be competitive.”
