Yes, it is that time of year once again, where millions upon millions of people make those New Year’s resolutions. Keep in mind that there are many who will succeed in keeping the resolutions but there are many, many more who will throw in the towel so to speak and hang it up after the first day or two.

Oh, there are some who will hang in there for a week, maybe two, and then it’s back to where they were Dec. 31.

Some want to lose weight while others want to quit smoking. Some want to be a better person and then there are those who plan on making more money than last year. And at the same time, pay off some of the debt they owe.

Whatever your New Year’s resolution is, may you be successful in obtaining your goal.

Ashville’s Connie McDaniel had the most unusual resolution of her lifetime and it was due to the recent death of her mom, Virginia Patterson.

“Usually, I don’t make New Year’s resolutions,” McDaniel said. “But with the recent death of my mom, it has made me think.

“My mom had the patience of Job. I never realized how much patience she really had or the influence she had on the people around her until her death. I have been touched by the many, many lives she affected with her humbleness and kindness in her long happy years. Words can never express my feelings when approached by some one she touched.

“If I could change anything about my personality it would be to have the ability to leave that same positive impression that my mom so affectionately had on others. With that being said, my 2010 resolution is to strive for more patience with people and to be a better person.”

Michelle Buzbee of Leeds said she wanted to a stronger person.

“I want to be more stable emotionally,” Buzbee said. “I do not want to cry as much.”

Chris Looney is from Odenville and his resolution for 2010 is to get some victories in basketball for the St. Clair County High School B-Team.

Samantha Hennings, from Springville, said her number one goal next year is to be a better basketball player.

Ashley Semrick of Moody said her main focus for 2010 is to get in shape.

“In order to do that, I am going to have to work out and eat healthy,” Semrick said.

Candice Rodgers of Pell City said her New Year’s resolution is to live well, laugh often and love much.

Ragland’s Tammy Echols said her resolution is to get out of debt.

Eva Wilson Arnold of Cropwell said she plans on eating healthier and hopefully, lose some weight.

Moody’s Debbie Howard is going to start out the New Year by losing weight.

Linda Parker from Odenville said she wants to stop smoking in 2010 so she can be in better health.

Springville’s Dixie Rhodes said her New Year’s resolution is for the Lady Tigers to win the St. Clair County Basketball Tournament coming up in January.

Natalie Sanders of Pell City said she is going to try and really live the quote that says, ‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.’

“If I could do that every day, I believe I would be a better person,” Sanders said.

Kelley Farmer of Springville said her New Year’s resolution is to find a way for her granddaughters to know they are loved so much by her.

“I love and cherish them both and I want them to know I would do anything in this world for them,” said Farmer.

Rachael Cathers is from Ragland and her New Year’s resolution is to survive the next semester of nursing school at Jacksonville State University.

Teri Helms from Odenville said her New Year’s resolution is for her dad to get healthier so 2010 will be a better year with him.

Amber Harris is from Springville and a teacher at Moody Elementary School. Her New Year’s resolution is to become a better person.

Bill Morris lives in Moody and manages the Leeds Waterworks.

“I want to try to provide an uplifting relationship with the community where I live and the community where I work,” Morris said.

Ragland’s Richard Bunt said he recently had the opportunity to former Major League Baseball pitcher Todd Jones speak at his church.

“He was talking about how it was one thing to have a successful life but he challenged us to have a significant life,” Bunt said. “So my New Year’s resolution is that I want to live a life of significance.”

James Ellenburg lives in Pell City and he wants to try and be a better person in 2010 than he was in 2009.

Odenville’s Kartez Carr said his resolution for the upcoming year is for the Saint Jr. Varsity basketball team to win a lot of games and beat everyone they have already lost to.

“I also want to have a good season in football next year,” Carr said.

Morgan Tucker is from Springville and a sophomore at Springville High School. She said her top priority for 2010 is to make all A’s on her report card.
