Margavio nailed 4 of his 5 treys in the first half to help the Tigers open up a huge lead before halftime and they coasted in the second half. Margavio finished the game with 24 points to lead all scorers.
Margavio mailed two 3-pointers early in the first quarter to give Springville an 11-5 lead before SCCHS head coach George Bates called a timeout.
By the end of the firs quarter, Springville’s lead was 14-6
Margavio hit his third trey with 6:19 remaining in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 17-6 lead. Two minutes later, Margavio nailed another 3-pointer to make it 25-6 as the Tigers were on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter. By halftime, the score was 31-10.
Springville played everyone in the second half and they won the second half scoring battle 24-19 to win the game 55-29.
Eight Springville players scored and Margavio led the way with 24 points. He also led the team in rebounds with 5.
Brandon Gilliland and Stephen Gholson scored 7 points each while Josh Gibson totaled 5 points. Ben Bonham and Jacob Gibson netted 4 points each while Aaron Smith and Julius Davis chipped in two points each.
Leading the Saints was Dee Franklin with 14 points. Damien Lee scored 5 points while Cody Helms added 4 points. Darius Crump and Danny Moore netted 2 points each while Jared Lee finished the game with a free throw,
Springville head coach Jeff Smith said they had a great start to the game getting ahead early.
“I thought that was a big factor, along with our defense being very active getting deflections and steals for some easy baskets,” Smith said.
With the win, Springville improved to 10-4 while the St. Clair Saints dropped to 3-7.
Both teams participated in this week’s 19th annual Springville Christmas Classic.
