What makes this team unique is that for the first time in his coaching career, Ashville’s Dale Beason is playing five in and five out. When Beason gets ready to make a substitute, he takes all five starters out and replaces them with a second five that is just as good and good enough to start.
“The second five bring a whole different tempo to the game,” Beason said. “They have their own identity. They have good chemistry and it gives the starters a break.”
The second five consist of Ebonie Brooks, Destiny Montgomery, Bianca Bothwell, Taylor Coffee and Jenny Howard.
“They have good chemistry,” Beason added. “They are balanced. This five in and five out is something we worked on during the summer. When Courtney Elders gets back, we’ll have 11 girls who can play.”
Sometimes late in games, Beason likes to mix and match players between starters and the second five, depending on who they re playing and the situation.
The latest three wins for the 10th-ranked team in the state have come against Oneonta, St. Clair County High and Springville.
