Moody beats St. Clair; Saints upend Leeds

Basketball is in full swing as Moody defeated St. Clair County High recently on the road then the Saints turned around and beat Leeds.

Moody 53, SCCHS 45

The Blue Devils defeated cross-town rival St. Clair 53-45 recently. Moody was up 10-7 after the first quarter and 24-20 at halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, Moody was clinging to a 37-33 lead and they went on to win 53-45.

Tyler Hamby led Moody with 13 points. Chade Slade pumped in 11 points.

Dee Franklin led the Saints and all scorers with 23 points.

Munford 57, SCCHS 46

The Saints then lost to the Munford Lions 57-46. Franklin scored 19 points to lead SCCHS while Darius Crump netted 8 points.

SCCHS 74, Leeds 66

In what could be deemed as the best game of the season thus far for the Saints, six St. Clair players scored in double figures as they defeated the defending state champion Leeds 74-66.

SCCHS got off to a fast start as they were up 22-12 after one quarter of play. By halftime, the Saints enjoyed a 39-22 lead.

Leeds fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 20-9 to cut the lead to 48-42.

It was a scoring fest in the fourth quarter as the two teams combined to score 50 points. St. Clair won the scoring battle in the last 8 minutes 26-24 to win the game 74-66.

Franklin led SCCHS with 15 points. Cody Helms pumped in 13 points while Crump and Damien Lee added 12 points each. Danny Moore scored 11 points while Trevor Fitch contributed 10 points.
