It is hard to think of a time when the juvenile court system didn’t have its mainstay: Juvenile Probation Officer Joe Funderburg.

But after 33 years in the job, Funderburg has retired.

Funderburg has been no stranger to public service. He held the post of president of the Alabama Council on Crime and Delinquency, and he has served as both member and chairman of the Pell City Board of Education.

And even in retirement, the service has not ended. He is working for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.

We salute Funderburg and his service to St. Clair County. His work helped make a difference in the lives of young people for decades.
