The season came to a close for the Springville Lady Tiger volleyball team last week at the Pelham Civic Complex as they were upended in the state tournament by the St. Paul Lady Saints 3-1.

St. Paul’s entered the tournament as the defending three-time state champs.

Springville lost the first two games of the match 25-13, 25-14 before winning game three 25-19. St. Paul put an end to the Lady Tiger season in the fourth game, beating them 25-12.

Springville ended the season with a record of 33-18.

Leading the Lady Tigers was Hope Rayburn with 11 assists, 11 digs and 4 kills. Shelby Woods had 14 kills and 5 digs while Dixie Rhodes had 8 digs. Savanna Hennings had 8 digs and 2 aces while Audrey House had 4 assists and 6 digs. McKinley Tribble had 9 blocks while Danyelle Martin finished the match with 5 blocks, 2 kills and 1 dig. Kelsey Ray had 1 dig while Molly Lindsey had 6 assists.

“It has been a great season,” said Springville head coach Warren House. “We would like to have played a little bit better in the state tournament. At times against St. Paul, we played great but we had a hard time sustaining our play through out the match.”

House said this team has accomplished a lot this season. They composed a record of 33-18 and House called it a great accomplishment since this was Springville’s toughest schedule ever in volleyball.

Springville won another county championship, another area championship and won the Springville Invitational. They finished second in the Region, sub-state champions and an Elite Eight participant.

“We had a great group of seniors this year,” said House. “Kasey Nielsen, Shelby Woods, Kirsten Gipson, Savanna Hennings, Kelsey Ray and Captains Nicole Beasley and Hope Rayburn. It was great for these girls to get to experience the state tournament. I know it is an experience they will never forget.”
