Moody Mayor Joe Lee and the Moody City Council have a vision. And in a meeting this past week, they took another step toward the fruition of their dream.

The Council rezoned 42 acres to not only allow the Gateway Towne Center retail development but an entertainment exemption as well. Officials have been considering a massive event center located near the retail development, and the new zoning would allow it.

It also could allow a movie theater or a bowling alley if needed in that district.

The move is sign that Moody officials are behind actions to make these projects a reality, and citizens should be encouraged by their focus on good growth for their city.

Officials from Moody and the St. Clair Economic Development Council have traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, to get firsthand information on that city’s event center. And that is the kind of studied, yet proactive approach citizens should want from their elected leaders.

We support Moody’s push for positive growth, and we commend officials for keeping the projects moving ahead.
