It’s budget time. And for many boards, commissions and councils across the state and nation, times aren’t so good.

A lengthy downturn in the economy has taken a toll on the upcoming fiscal year set to begin today. But in St. Clair County, the Commission is reporting good financial shape, a raise for employees and level funding of outside agencies.

We know that didn’t happen by accident. The Commission had to be good stewards of taxpayer money in order to balance the budget and even increase it from last year’s version.

While others are wielding a mighty budget axe, the county commission is moving forward financially. And that speaks volumes about the oversight of line items in the budget.

We commend the commission on a job well done for FY10. Hard work and attention to financial detail have helped keep the state’s fasting growing county in good shape.
