Pictured are the ladies who are organizing this year’s Ragland School PTO Fall Festival, the largest fundraiser of the year. Seated, from left, are PTO officers Angel Phillips, president; Tammy Phillips, vice-president; Connie Ford, treasurer; and Alachia Turner, secretary. Standing, from left, are go-to moms Angel Trammell, Sandi Riggs, Laura Kohler, Tammy Isbell, Jana Elkins, Brandy Layton and Heather Clark.
Due to the renovation efforts at Ragland School, the fall festival is being moved to Joan Ford Stadium on the high school football field.
All of the day’s activities get started at 3 p.m. with music from various talents across the county.
Tammy Phillips, PTO vice-president, said bands that will be performing include Alan Furr and Whitney Junction Bluegrass Band, Dem Deacon Boyz, a Christian Rap group, and the New Life Worship Band, along with some local talent like Kendall Poe, Kristen Boswell, Reagan Wyatt and Makena Kay.
“Games start at 5 p.m. and this year, we are not having a haunted house,” said Angel Phillips, PTO president. “Instead, we are having a Judgment House and it opens at 6 p.m. The Lord just put this on my heart. We prayed about it and were able to get it approved.” Heather Clark, one of our go-to moms, has taken over this and she has several high school students who have volunteered to be in it. Different churches have agreed to volunteer counselors afterwards if they are needed.”
The entire event will last until 9 p.m. Organizers are in need of an old junk car.
Churches will also be participating in helping with game booths again this year. There will be food and concessions. PTO Treasurer Connie Ford said if churches are interested in helping and running a booth, just give her a call.
Ford added that everyone is excited about the fall festival being at the football field.
“We do not have to worry about the lighting,” Ford said. “This is going to work out very well.
Ford also added that they are really blessed this year to have what they are calling their go-to moms.
“These are mothers who have children in school who have expressed a desire to help out any way they can at the school,” Ford said. “They are here for us and they fill in wherever they are needed. They help out so much at the school and they are deeply appreciated.”
With this being the largest fundraiser of the year, donations are needed as well as corporate sponsorships. Last year, $4,000 was raised at the fall festival and organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.
When asked what the money would be used for, Ford said due to proration and the school’s budget being cut so much, they just want to make up that gap that’s been left by proration.
