A two-vehicle accident early Sunday morning claimed the life of an Ashville man.

St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell said Miguel Montgomery, 36, died at the scene of the accident, which happened on U.S. 231 North near mile-marker 244 shortly before 6 a.m.

Russell pronounced Montgomery dead at 6:55 a.m. The cause of death was head trauma.

Montgomery was driving a 2005 Honda and the only one in the vehicle.

According to a report by the Alabama State Trooper’s Office, Birmingham Post, Montgomery was traveling north while Rodriques Tilley and Brian Carter were traveling south in a 1980’s Chevrolet Caprice when the two vehicles hit.

Tilley, 20, is from Whistler, Ala., while Carter, 24, is from Hope Hull, Ala. Both were injured and taken to Gadsden Regional Hospital.

At press time, the extent of the injuries to Tilley and Carter were not fully known.

Russell added that when the two vehicles hit, they burst into flames.

The accident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Trooper’s Office and by Trooper Hurd.
