Two Moody seniors have been selected as Bryant/Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship Program winners.
Josh Daniel was an area winner in the scholar division while DeeQ Swann was named an achievement region winner.
Swann gets to move on and compete against other region winners at the state level.
Daniel maintains a 3.97 GPA and said it was just an honor to be selected.
“It just shows people how hard I’ve worked,” Daniel said.
Daniel has signed an academic scholarship to Alabama A&M and will also play basketball.
Swann overcame a lot of adversity, and still excelled on the basketball court for the Blue Devils.
“It means a lot, and it is just an honor to me,” Swann said.
Moody High School Principal Cheryl Kuyk said she was so proud of her two senior students.
“They are both incredible young men,” Kuyk said. “They are great students. We chose them both to be office aides this year, because they were both so responsible and polite to adults. They are excellent athletes, and they have a lot of skill in their athletic competition. They both have good sportsmanship. They are always helping kids up on the court if they fall down. They are just wonderful young men. Any college they go to will be better off for having either one of them.”
Kuyk said Swann has achieved great things despite having adversity in his life.
Because Swann is a region winner, he has already received a $2,500 scholarship.
“Colleges get the list of these winners, so there is a good chance he will be offered other scholarships also,” Kuyk said. “This is probably not the end of what he will be offered. If he goes on and wins state, that will be amazing.”
