The Ragland Purple Devils won the Class 1A, Area 12 Tournament beating Donoho and Sacred Heart along the way.
They now host Valley Head Friday at 6 p.m. in sub-regional action.
Before the area tournament, Ragland defeated Hokes Bluff.
Ragland 60, Hokes Bluff 57
Three Ragland players scored in double figures as the Purple Devils edged Hokes Bluff 60-57 in a game played on the campus of Gadsden State.
KiJana Lindsey pumped in 19 points while Trez Carson added 15 points and Jimmy Brock netted 10 points to lead Ragland. Brock also dished out nine assists.
The Purple Devils trailed 17-14 after the first quarter, but fought back to take a 34-31 halftime lead.
By the end of the third quarter, Ragland’s lead was up to six points at 48-42.
They won by three, 60-57.
Cody Jones was one point away from giving Ragland four players in double figures as he netted nine points. Devane Brewster scored four points while Jacob Brewster added three points.
Ragland coach Andy Eden said it was a big win for the team to finish out the regular season against a very good Hokes Bluff team.
“Our defensive pressure helped create turnovers,” Eden said. “Offensively, we shot the ball well.”
Ragland 61, Donoho 43
In the opening round of the area tournament, the Purple Devils advanced to the tournament finals with a 61-43 victory over Donoho. They improved to 23-6 overall.
It was a slow start for Ragland as they fell behind 5-0, and Cody Jones picked up two fouls before the game was two minutes old. He sat for the remainder of the first half.
After falling behind 5-0, Ragland finished the quarter on a 16-5 run to make it 16-10 after the first quarter.
Halfway through the second quarter, the Purple Devils enjoyed a double-digit lead at 24-14. Ragland finished the quarter on an 8-0 run to make the halftime score 32-14.
The damage had been done in the first half as the two teams were even in the second half at 29-29. The final score was 61-43.
Leading Ragland was Brock with 19 points. Jacob Brewster and Jones scored nine points each while Lindsay totaled seven points. Gardner finished the game with six points while Trez Carson had five points. Jaylen Brewster and brother Devane Brewster had two points each.
Ragland 61, Sacred Heart 51
The third meeting between these two teams was just like the first two. Intense and down to the wire. The outcome of this game was also like the first two — a Ragland win.
Ragland was up by seven points at halftime, and still up 39-33 headed into the fourth quarter.
When Brock stole the ball, and hit a lay-up, it gave the Purple Devils a double-digit lead at 46-35. They went on to win the game 61-51.
Three Ragland players scored in double figures as Jones scored 16 points, Lindsay scored 15 points and Brock scored 10 points. Devane Brewster added eight points while Jacob Brewster had seven points. Jaylen Brewster totaled five points.
