For all the bitterness of presidential politics — and politics in general these days — the day of an inauguration is a special time. It celebrates a tradition that is unique to a free society: free elections, and peaceful transitions of power.
As such, it is indeed a special occasion for St. Clair County that Jonathan Talley – a Ragland native serving in the U.S. Coast Guard – was chosen to serve as part of the Honor Guard for last week’s presidential inauguration in Washington. Talley himself called it “an honor” for himself.
It was indeed an honor for us all.
