Angie Cobb and John DeGaris were sworn in for another six years as members of the St. Clair County Board of Education.

Performing the oath of office was St. Clair County Circuit Judge Phil Seay. The two board members were sworn in prior to the Nov. 19 meeting held at the central office in Ashville.

DeGaris thanked the people who voted for him and supported him.

“I also want to thank the people who ran against me,” DeGaris said. “I understand there were some write-in votes against me including Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. I find it mighty curious that candidates don’t have any trouble putting up signs, but it takes months, if not years, to get them down.”

Cobb said she wanted to thank everyone for their encouragement, their votes and their confidence to serve another six years.

“I’m truly humbled by the experience,” Cobb said. “It was a long, hard year. I am grateful and humbled to everyone for their support and all they’ve done. The amount of cards, letters and emails I received from parents, teachers and administrators is very humbling. It was a tough year, and I’m glad it’s over. I thank God for His grace and mercy.”

St. Clair Schools Superintendent Jenny Seals congratulated Cobb and DeGaris.

“I thank you both for what you have already done on this board, and I look forward to six more years with you,” Seals said.

Also, board member Scott Suttle was reappointed to serve as board chairman while Marie Manning was elected to serve as vice-chair, replacing Randy Thompson.

Seals also congratulated both of them.

In other business, the board:

• Approved declaring the installation of the new lower roof at Moody Jr. High School a public works project.

• Approved Ashville High School’s capital lease purchase of a Kubota tractor.

• Approved various personnel items.
