A common cliché holds that the best investment we can make is in our children. It is common, possibly because it is true.
Last week, St. Clair County schools Superintendent Jenny Seals visited the Moody Area Chamber of Commerce to give an update on the local schools. As part of her presentation, she and administrators from other Moody schools encouraged the community to stay involved in local schools.
“You may be asked in the future to donate to some of these programs,” she said. “I ask you to pray about it and seriously consider it. If you can donate anything, we’d certainly appreciate it.”
The next day, Friday, Seals was on hand at Margaret Elementary to see an example of that type of donation up front. The Springville Walmart donated 20 gift cards, worth $50 apiece, to teachers at MES, to help offset the cost of school supplies.
“We’re just so appreciative for what your company (Walmart) does for these communities,” Joe Goble said. “We’re very appreciative of them recognizing teachers at Margaret Elementary School, and always appreciative of the support of our community.”
These are difficult economic times. Each student’s family contributes what it can to the schools, but often even that is not enough.
We can only salute those businesses and individuals for their contributions to the local schools. They appreciate it, and so do we.
