The ongoing widening of Interstate 20 will cause delays in the county this week, according to a release from the Alabama Department of Transportation.

In the release, ALDOT states that, weather permitting, the inside eastbound lane of I-20 will be closed Wednesday from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Thursday, between mile markers 152 and 153 for bridge work on Cane Creek Bridge and Cook Springs Bridge. The same construction will occur on the westbound inside lane Thursday from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Friday.

The work is part of ALDOT’s “Progress 20” project to widen the last four-lane segment of I-20 in St. Clair County, between Moody and Pell City. Scheduled completion date for the project is the summer of 2013.

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are urged to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work-zone speed limits and other work-zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed limits.
