Since his freshman year, Ashville quarterback E. J. Moss has been on the radar of many college football teams, especially throughout the Southeastern Conference.
The 6-4, 220-pound junior visited Tuscaloosa earlier this summer, home of the 2009 and 2011 national champs.
“This summer I’ve also been to Mississippi State, Tennessee, UAB and Auburn,” Moss said.
Moss is preparing for his third season as starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. He is quick to say the most important thing to him right now is to help Ashville have a great football season.
While many have thought Moss has been leaning toward Alabama, about a month ago, he took a second visit to Tennessee.
“I really like Tennessee,” Moss said. “They have nice facilities, and I really like the entire coaching staff I just like the way they have everything set up.”
Moss said he was able to spend about 30 to 45 minutes talking with UT head coach Derek Dooley.
“I have been to Alabama a lot,” Moss said. “I’ve seen a lot of Crimson Tide games. “Hopefully, I am going to try all the schools, and go to as many games as I can. The teams who have recruited me real hard include Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Auburn. Those four schools are wanting me. I really haven’t heard from Oregon lately. I heard more from them when I was in Louisiana for a mini camp.”
Ashville has a new coaching staff lead by former Oxford offensive coordinator Mark O’Bryant and Moss is expecting big things from the Bulldogs in 2012.
“We have a whole new coaching staff,” Moss said. “He’s really done a lot for us. I can already tell a big difference, and we’ve been working all summer. I expect us to be much improved this year.”
O’Bryant said Moss has come a long way, and still has a long way to go.
“E.J. is a special talent,” O’Bryant said. “He can be as good as he wants to be. He is a great kid, and that is his best quality. He is a great kid, and that is his best quality.”
Moss is expected to be one of the top prospects from the state of Alabama in the 2014 class.
“This is just the best feeling,” Moss said. “This is like a dream come true, for me and my dad. I always wanted to play college football, but I cannot get the bighead right now.
“I still have two years of high school football remaining. I can’t let my team down. My goal this year is to win more games at Ashville. I want to take this team as far as we can go.”
The season opens for the Bulldogs and Moss Aug. 31 at rival Springville.
