A Moody man was arrested late Tuesday night after allegedly firing at vehicles on the highway.

According to Capt. Thomas Hunt with the Moody Police Department, officers arrested Matthew Giles, 19, at around 9 p.m. Tuesday. Giles is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, a Class B felony.

Hunt said Giles was “sitting on a four-wheeler randomly shooting at cars” driving west on U.S. 78, near the stop sign in front of Jenkins Brick, in the Brompton area. Two cars took bullets from a pistol in the incident.

Hunt said no injuries resulted from the shooting. According to Sheriff Terry Surles, the occupants of the vehicles were fortunate.

“He hit one car in the drivers side door, and the other he hit just above the window,” Surles said. “That could’ve very easily killed both those people.”

Hunt and Surles said Giles was apparently intoxicated at the time of the arrest.

It was not known at press time when Giles will appear in court.
