Recent announcements by Honda Manufacturing of Alabama have been nothing but good news added to more good news for our part of the state.

All told, the automaker has announced the creation of almost 300 new jobs since 2011, as the $2 billion facility in Lincoln is being ramped up to add more production lines to its output.

In all, 140 production jobs have already been added, and recent announcements indicate the company is looking for 100 more people for engineering jobs and 50 more for production.

A series of new investments announced since last year total $390 million.

That shows great confidence in the economy and in the quality of the work force in east central Alabama.

HMA is already the global supplier of the Honda Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline, as well as the V-6 engines that power them. The new investments will enable HMA to increase production capacity, prepare for the addition of the Acura MDX, increase flexibility in engine assembly and to add Pilot production to Line 1.

Honda’s presence in Lincoln has drawn a number of automotive suppliers to the area as well, and as previously announced, parts maker M-Tek plans to begin production this fall and bring almost 200 more jobs to the area over the next couple of years.

After 10 and a half years of operations in Lincoln, the good news from Honda just keeps on coming.
