While some St. Clair County municipalities will participate in the state of Alabama’s annual Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 3-5, some will not.

Alabama’s tax-free weekend for back-to-school supplies runs Friday through Sunday. The state is waiving its 4 percent sales tax and many cities and counties are doing the same with their local sales taxes.

Those municipalities participating in the sales tax holiday to purchase school supplies and clothing for students include Odenville, Ashville, Springville, Pell City and Leeds. These municipalities adopted ordinances that will give parents and guardians a break from paying sales tax on the purchase of school supplies and school clothes as students prepare for the upcoming school year. School starts throughout the county Aug. 20.

Those municipalities not participating in the sales tax holiday include Ragland, Steele, Riverside, Argo, Moody and Margaret.
