According to the release, weather permitting, state troopers began conducting rolling roadblocks between mile markers 147 and 149 Monday-Thursday, June 4-7, from 7-7:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes, for blasting. Additionally, the outside westbound lane of I-20 will be closed between mile markers 147 and 149 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each evening to remove loose material from the blasting.
This work is part of the ALDOT’s Progress 20 project to widen the last four-lane segment of I-20 in St. Clair County.
A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are urged to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work-zone speed limits and other work-zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed limits.
Work on adding lanes to the eight mile section of the highway began in October, 2009, and is expected to be completed this fall.
