Springville Lady Tigers win area, set for regional tourney

The Springville Lady Tigers are headed to the Regional Tournament Friday after winning the Class 4A, Area 12 Tournament last week.

Springville, 26-20 overall, defeated Douglas and Oneonta to win the area crown.

Springville 10, Douglas 0

The Lady Tigers easily defeated Douglas 10-0 in six innings. Savannah Caswell picked up the win to run her record to 14-11. She tossed a one-hitter and struck out five.

At the plate, Sydne Waldrop, Tanner Earley, Kari Gipson and Alex Bailey all had two hits each.

Springville 14, Oneonta 4

Springville advanced to the title game as they defeated Oneonta 14-4 in five innings.

Caswell picked up the win. She worked four innings and gave up one run on three hits. She walked one and struck out two. Ashlyn Hawkins worked one inning and gave up three runs on one hit and walked three.

Danyelle Martin led Springville at the plate with four hits, including a two-run home run. She finished the game with four RBIs. Earley also had four hits, including a double, and she drove in three runs. Waldrop and Hayden Henderson had two hits and two RBIs each.

Gipson, McKinley Tribble, Kolyn Kyser, Caswell and Bailey all had one hit each.

Springville 5, Oneonta 1

In the title game, the Lady Tigers defeated Oneonta again, this time by a score of 5-1.

Caswell picked up the win and improved to 16-11 overall. She went seven innings and gave up one run on five hits. She struck out five.

Offensively, Henderson had three hits and scored two runs. Waldrop had two hits and scored a run while Earley, Gipson, Kyser and Martin all had one hit each.

Springville’s road to the state tournament starts Friday at 8 a.m. at Liberty Park in the regional tournament. They play the Alexandria Lady Cubs.
