Editor:

For many years in the state of Alabama, law enforcement and district attorneys have strongly relied on tips given by confidential informants to make their case against the defendant. They are not in trouble, so they are not looking for a reward. They only wish to help law enforcement officers keep their neighborhoods safe, and they are to be commended. They are truly confidential informants. They should remain anonymous.

But sadly to say that there is a new breed of want to be CI’s (confidential informant.) They can never compare with the CI’s in the first paragraph. These people are criminal and well deserving of the code name “snitch.” They will betray you and the agent they are working for. They are rats and liars. They will betray their friends and it has been said that they will even turn in their own mothers in exchange for their freedom. These are the people who are rewarded by the system.

There should be a cry of outrage from the law abiding citizens of this state, because most of these are deeply involved in crimes themselves. Robbery, trafficking, narcotic distribution, and many other crimes, just to name a few. Yet some of these people get their sentence reduced, cases get thrown out or just simply disappear in exchange for information.

In my opinion, this atrocity must cease. The state of Alabama is a state of Christian value, we have a reputation to uphold. God is looking for someone to make this a live model on Earth as it is in heaven.

In my conclusion, these people have committed a Class A felony, and therefore must pay for their crime. I know that many officers and elected officials claim that it’s all part of an effort to eradicate from society those who are allegedly disobedient to the law while simultaneously they are granting the “snitch” authorized immunity to commit crimes. But in my opinion it can do nothing but add to the negativity already associated with this state.

Thank you,
