Twenty citizens gathered at the Leeds High School auditorium last week to celebrate their completion of the first “Leedership” Leeds class. The program, modeled after that in Pell City and later across St. Clair County, is the final step for the city in receiving designation as an Alabama Community of Excellence.

In the coming weeks, leaders from the city will head to Montgomery, to receive a certification from the governor. It is an honor for the city, as well as a challenge: to find new ways to put aside their differences and move forward.

Kudos to the Class of 2012. And here’s to many more.
