On Saturday at The Shops of Grand River Outlet Mall, ladies young and old, some of them cancer survivors, walked the “runway” to support Relay for Life in Leeds and Moody. Clothes were donated by Dress Barn and Maurice’s.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Becky Hogan, chairman of Leeds/Moody Relay. “Of course, I’m always having fun when I’m doing something for Relay.”
Relay also was set up in the middle of the mall for most of Saturday, to disseminate information and receive donations. The overall goal for this year’s event is $53,000.
“It took about a month to put everything together,” Hogan said. “Everybody did a great job.”
Spring fashions were on display, as well.
“We just decided it would be a way to have fun and raise a little money,” Hogan said.
Relay for Life will have an active month coming up — a softball tournament is scheduled for April at Moody city park, and a benefit 5k run at the Creek Bank Festival is also in the works. Additionally, the annual survivors’ dinner will be April 30 at Moody City Hall.
Relay for Life for Leeds and Moody will take place May 4 at Bill Morris Stadium in Moody. The event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 6 a.m. May 5.
