The continuing project to widen the last stretch of Interstate 20 in St. Clair County will prompt lane closures this week, according to a release from the Alabama Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, the release states, state troopers will conduct rolling roadblocks between mile markers 147 and 149 on Tuesday and Thursday, from 7 p.m.-7:20 p.m. in both the eastbound and westbound lanes, for blasting. The outside westbound lane will also be closed during these times to reset a temporary barrier rail.

The work is part of the “Progress 20” project, to widen the highway from four lanes to six between Pell City and Moody.

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are urged to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work-zone speed limits and other work-zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed limits.
