Letter: Marijuana use not God's intention

To the Editor:

I read with dismay and amusement the letter in the March 22 publication of the St. Clair Times where one writer claimed God condones the smoking of pot and getting high (“Marijuana plant created by God”).

While it is true God created everything, it is also true that man purposely misuses many of God’s creations. Hemp (marijuana) was grown and used to make rope for Navy vessels and ships of the fleet, until someone discovered that if you smoked it you could get high, like the effect of alcohol.

This impaired his rational thinking and abilities and might cause injury or death to his fellow shipmates. In a similar way, drinking and driving causes too many car wrecks and deaths, and is therefore against the law.

The difference is pot is illegal and alcohol is not. While you can argue over this all you want to, the point is the law against pot still stands and you can and will go to jail having, smoking or selling pot. So in the end the choice is yours to make through freewill and by using the good sense God gave you.

So stop implying that a part of God’s master plan is for you to have the right to smoke pot and get high. Jesus himself said, “give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s” (Mark 12:17).

Of course, you can always take your case to the local police and lay out your best defense for the use of pot. I don’t think they will buy it and I don’t think God will either.
