LAC honoring Vason as its Artist of the Month

The Leeds Arts Council announced last week that it will honor Alabaster artist Jerome Vason as its Artist of the Month for March, beginning with an opening reception be Sundayfrom 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center on Parkway Drive in downtown Leeds.

Vason has been involved with art and design all of his life. He excelled in art in high school and then continued his desire to become an artist by earning a BA in art from Berea College in Kentucky.

After college, Vason joined the U.S. Army and remained in service for 22 years. Throughout his military career, he maintained and enhanced his art skills by painting murals and completing artwork at various duty assignments. Shortly after retiring form the army, he began to pursue his interest in the arts.

Vason participates in various art shows throughout the southeast and exhibits. More recently, he has participated in Stone Soup Gallery, Leeds; Small Works of Great Art Exhibition, Homewood; Energen Art Exhibition, Birmingham; Feline Art Exhibition, Birmingham; Panama City Beach Art Fest, Panama City, Florida; Chastain Park Art Show, Atlanta; and Aldridge Gardens Art Exhibition in Birmingham. Vason sells his work through local galleries.

He is a member and exhibiting artist with Artist Incorporated located in Vestavia Hills and Blue Phrogg Gallery located in Montevallo. He is a current member of the Chilton County Art Association and a former member of the Birmingham Art Association.

The public is invited to come meet the artist and enjoy viewing his paintings, which include a variety of techniques using rich vivid color and deep texture. Admission to the reception is free, and his works will be available for purchase.
