Ragland 53, Appalachian 40
The Lady Purple Devils extended their season with a 53-40 victory over Appalachian in the opening round of the area tournament.
Ragland led 14-7 after the first quarter and 26-17 at halftime. They extended their lead to 36-24 after three quarters and went on to win the game, 53-40.
Two Ragland players had double-doubles as Kailey Echols scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while J.J. Looney netted 10 points and pulled down 10 boards. Belle McKinney had 12 points and six rebounds.
Ragland 55, Gaston 42
Ragland jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead, and went on to defeat the Lady Bulldogs, 55-42. By halftime, the Lady Purple Devils lead was 28-16.
The game was much closer in the second half as Ragland edged Gaston 27-26 to make the final score 55-42.
Echols had her second consecutive double-double as she netted 14 points and had 10 rebounds. McKinney led the team in scoring with 18 points. Looney pumped in 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Callie Kay scored six points.
Ragland, 20-10 overall, will host Sacred Heart Thursday in the sub-regionals. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
