This week’s edition has reports of several young men and women from the county whose athletic ability is helping them make plans for their college education.

A trio from Pell City High School — Justin Morgan, Russell Peters and Steve Pickren — signed on “National Signing Day” to play at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Jacksonville State and UAB respectively. Ladarius Rogers from Leeds High School signed to play at Jacksonville State University.

Pell City’s Ryan Salter has signed to play baseball at Talladega College, and just last week two other Pell City baseball players, Dylan Calhoun and Cole Billingsley, signed to play at Arkansas Pine Bluff and the University of South Alabama.

Two young ladies, teammates on St. Clair County High School’s volleyball team, also committed to playing on Southern Union’s team.

It’s a tribute to the players, their families, teammates and coaches throughout their playing careers. With their support, these players have been prepared to take their skills to the next level and continue their education in preparation for their post-college future.

We hope others join the list, and to all of them and those who helped them make their dreams come true, congratulations on a job well done!
