St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital associates will etch their names onto the new hospital’s chapel floor this morning.

“I’m going to be there with Sharpies,” said Beth Bourg, marketing manager for St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital in Pell City.

Bourg said the hospital chapel is an important part of the Catholic based hospital program.

She said associates are encouraged to pray with their patients in the hospital chapel.

“We like the idea of a chapel floor signing,” Bourg said Thursday.

She said workers are expected to install carpet in the chapel next week. All the signatures, comments and prayers will remain written on the floor of the chapel underneath the carpet.

The floor signing ceremony is slated to start at 10 a.m., but the event is just for hospital associates.

Bourg said Wayne Carmello-Harper of Anniston, the new St. Vincent’s Health System Senior vice president of mission integration, will attend today’s floor signing event.

Prior to coming to St. Vincent’s Health System in March, Carmello-Harper served as president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama.

The new St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital is expected to open its doors to patients Dec. 10.

There are several events planned during the week the hospital is scheduled to open.

Bourg said St. Vincent’s St. Clair will have a community open house 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4.

The new hospital’s official ribbon cutting ceremony is slated for 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Bourg said a reception will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony, and tours of the $31.4 million hospital are scheduled between the hours of 1-3 p.m. for anyone who has not walked through the hospital yet.

It was only about a year ago that the hospital held a bean signing ceremony, where more than 200 people signed a steel bean that was used in the construction of the new hospital.

Bourg said the St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital Auxiliary plans to hold its Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which also serves as a fundraiser for the hospital auxiliary, a week later than normal or during the next week following the opening of the hospital.

The hospital sits on 20 acres, adjacent to where construction of the $50 million Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home is under way.

St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital project partners include St. Vincent’s Health System, the St. Clair County Commission, The St. Clair County Health Care Authority, the St. Clair County Economic Development Council and the City of Pell City.

The new hospital is located just north of Interstate 20 on the newly constructed Veterans Parkway. The south entrance to the hospital is off Wolf Creek Road North.
