To the Editor:

Isn’t it strange that during these difficult economic times government at all levels feel it necessary to make cuts on raises and benefits to their employees yet won’t even consider cutting back on their spending habits of blowing taxpayer money on useless, unnecessary pet projects that are not needed or wanted by anyone other than themselves?

Hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted annually on deals that benefit no one but the politicians themselves, family, friends and their closest business associates, yet they make their employees their scapegoats and punish them for debts that they themselves have built and continue to build up.

Instead of putting their burden onto the backs of working middle class employees, politicians need to act more like responsible public servants, as that is what they were elected to be. While some county and city governments are in dire straits, most are not; those that are not still seize upon the fact that times are hard for some in order to cut back on their employees and will not considering once about pulling their own snouts out of the taxpayers’ trough.

These politicians who prey on their own employees needlessly just because the opportunity presents itself are the worst of the lot and need to be remembered at the next election and voted out of office.
