The 14-year-old boy was transported by LifeSaver helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Fire Department Capt. Mike Burdette said the child appeared to be in stable condition.
Authorities said the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m., on 22nd Street, right before the Cogswell Avenue intersection.
Police Corporal Rebecca Cruce said the unidentified youth was hit when he attempted to cross 22nd Avenue from the east. The driver of the vehicle was traveling north on 22nd Street, towards Cogswell Avenue, when the accident happened.
Cruce said the boy was responsive when she arrived on the scene and answered questions.
She said the boy’s bicycle hit the left front bumper of the vehicle.
The teen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The boy was transported by ambulance to an open field across from Fire Station No. 1, where a LifeSaver helicopter picked up the victim and transported him to a Birmingham Hospital.
