The St. Clair County Extension Office is looking for vendors and sponsors for this year’s health fair.

“We just began getting everything started for this year’s health fair,” said county extension coordinator Lee Ann Clark. “We are hoping for a good response.”

The registration deadline for the 2011 St. Clair County Health Fair is Sept. 15. The health fair is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 28.

“The theme this year is ‘Don’t Clown Around With Your Health,’” she said. “We are going for a festive atmosphere this year, and plan to have clowns at the health fair.”

Clark said close to 500 people attended last year’s health fair. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

“The Alabama Department of Public Health will have flu shots available again this year,” she said.

Clark said the flu shots are $5, but are free to those covered by Medicaid and Medicare, who should bring their Medicaid or Medicare card with them.

“We will have free cholesterol and blood glucose screenings,” she said. “Those are confirmed, and we are working to have other free screenings available too.”

Clark said entertainment is provided throughout the event, and door prizes will be given out throughout the day as well.

She said local companies and businesses are encouraged to participate in two ways.

Corporate sponsorships are available. The monetary donations help cover expenses of the health fair, including advertisement. Sponsors are promoted during the health fair in various advertisements, flyers and public relation articles. Sponsorship levels are gold at $100 and silver at $50.

Vendor booths are subject to review and approval by the Health Resource Council based on space needs, type of service and space available. Each vendor is allowed one six-foot table, which is provided.

Also, each vendor is required to provide a door prize valued at $25 or more in lieu of a registration fee. Door prizes should be brought the day of the event. Due to limited space, only the first 80 who register will be able to participate.

“Registration forms are available for download at www.aces.edu/stclair,” she said. “We want to encourage everyone to participate and to attend this year’s health fair.”
