Schools in the St. Clair County System are in their second week of the 2011-2012 school year.

For Margaret Elementary School second-grade teacher Sue Wood, it’s the second week of teaching after being named St. Clair County’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011.

“That was a very great honor for me,” Wood said. “There are almost 500 teachers in our district.

“Many of these individuals, who have spent their lives dedicated to inspiring young people to achieve their potential in life, are never recognized for their lifetime of service. It was my great honor to represent those teachers.”

During her teaching career, she has taught public school in Texas; owned and directed a private preschool; and most recently has been teaching in the St Clair County School System for the past seven years.

“I love teaching at Margaret Elementary School,” Wood said. “Principal Joe Goble has fostered a wonderful, professional, collaborative environment for teaching and learning.

“The teachers at Margaret Elementary are among the best and most hardworking I have known throughout my career.”

Goble said Wood exemplifies teacher and learning characteristics that help promote the professional collaborative spirit that is so necessary to student success and achievement.

“She provides much needed guidance from the early childhood perspective,” Goble said. “She has tremendous classroom management, makes learning meaningful and sustains calmness in her demeanor which is infectious to her students while providing the optimum learning environment for their success.”
